Todd Library presents “Issues in Autism/Asperger’s Syndromes” as the focused theme for October 2009. As recently as the early 1960’s, you could hardly find a book on the subject of Autism in order to do research, but not so today! With the increase in diagnosis, comes the rise in our knowledge and literature on the the subjects. September is PAIN AWARENESS MONTH and with that in mind, the Todd Library is featuring some of our books, DVDs and articles to aid in bringing awareness to the fact that pain is a growing national public health crisis. It affects approximately 76.5 million people here in the United States alone. Check out some of our Electronic Sources as well from the comfort of your home.

June signifies the anniversary of when AIDS was first noted. On June 5, 1981, the Centers for Disease Control first described the new illness in a newsletter. About a year later, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was adopted as the offical name for the new disease by the CDC. The actual virus that causes AIDS was identified in 1983 and named in 1985 as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The first person to die from this disease in the developed world was in 1959. More than 524,000 Americans have died of AIDS while more than 22 million people worldwide. At the present time, about 40 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS. To bring more knowledge and understanding of AIDS/HIV, the Todd Library will have a book display focusing on this subject.  Come in and check out items or use our online resources  to find our electronic books.
