April Book Display

You have probably heard of “911” or the Chicago “Heat Wave”, possibly the Hindenburg Explosion, the Dust Bowl or the Great Mississippi Flood of 1993 – but have you heard of the Texas City Disaster of 1947 known to be the worst industrial disaster in U.S. history, the Halifax Explosion of 1917 or the “Great Tri-State Tornado” of 1925 that struck Illinois? April’s library theme will be Disasters – Natural and Man-Made. Come in and learn about the  fortitude of mankind and share some new knowledge with others.

Water Safety and Sanitation

According to the United Nations, in 2006, 1.1 billion people lacked access to an improved source of drinking water.  Lack of access to clean water can led to Cholera, parasitic diseases, diarrhea, and death.

Going Green in the Bathroom

Did you know if “every household in the United States replaced just one roll of virgin fiber toilet paper (500 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 423,900 trees”? (National Resources Defense Council Sept. 2006)  Production of the cushy tissue Americans’ prefer–called the Charmin effect–also uses more water and increases the level of chemicals released into the environment due to the chlorine bleaching process. Environmental groups like Greenpeaceand NRDC have come up with lists to help consumers make eco-friendly choices when it comes to their TP purchases.  tp

Think Spring! After the long, cold winter, hearts and minds turn to warmer weather and what better way to think Sping then to think of planting a garden. Whether it be flowers or herbs and vegetables that you have in mind, Todd Library is the place to go to check out information to help you get started. The Lincoln-Douglas Debates Traveling Exhibit marks the 140th anniversary of the nation’s most famous political speeches.  Sponsored by the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition, and funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the Todd Library proudly displays this historic panel depicting the famous debates. Adjacent to the 20-foot panel display are associated library materials available for check-out as well as an array of corresponding Lincoln memorabilia.  This noteworthy depiction of the historic debates will be on display through March 9, 2009.  Come visit the Todd Library for a step back in time.
