If you love words then you are going to love Wordnik. Along with definitions provided from four different print dictionaries, Wordnik also provides synonyms and antonyms from Roget’s Thesaurus and examples of the word used in a sentence. In striving to be the one-stop shop for words, Wordnik brings in pictures from Flickr and Twitter conversations that include the entry word. If you are really into words you can even start an account to save your favorite words and add to new words to Wordnik’s collection.
Worldmapper is not a traditional map Web site. Instead it is a fun way to understand statistics visually. Worldmapper has a collection of maps that are re-sized according to different subjects/interests. For example, the map above shows each country’s size in proportion to it’s population compared to the rest of the world. You can view maps by many different subjects ranging from amount of commute time to number of deaths caused by war.
February is Library lovers month. Stop by the Todd Library and sign our board telling us why you love the library. Check out a library related title such as Library: An Unquiet History. Read, surf, study, view, research, write, ask or just browse. We love to see you here!
Traditionally, in the United States and Canada, the month containing Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday (12th) and Frederick Douglass’s presumed birthday (14th) is when we observe a special period in which we recognize the achievements and contributions by African Americans. The first year of observation was in 1926 and launched by Dr. Carter G. Woodson.
