Anniversary of First Photographs used in a Newspaper Report

July 1, 1848

The first instance of photojournalism occurred during the Paris Riots of 1848 from a rooftop location. Wood engravings of the two daguerreotypes were made and the images appeared in the weekly newspaper L’Illustration Journal Universel. Come visit our large collection on Photography and Photographers in the Todd Library and maybe even check some out.
