U.S. Constitution’s Anniversary
September 17, 1787
This year, our country celebrates the 223rd anniversary of the signing of our government’s Constitution into law. At the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, PA, delegates from 12 states voted unanimously to approve the proposed document. Come visit the Todd Library and check out some of our collection on the history and amendments of this great document.
August 6, 1890
The age old controversy over Capital Punishment is again brought to light with the first execution by electrocution used to carry out the Death Penalty. This happened at the Auburn Prison, Auburn, NY. If looking for information for a research paper or “to take a stand”, come in and check out our collection concerning the Pros and Cons over this major and universal issue.
Happy Birthday Hemingway!
Ernest Hemingway remains to this day, one of America’s greatest authors. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois on July 21, 1899. He made a name for himself by writing such amazing books as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls, to name just a few. Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1954. Come celebrate and check out one of his books at the Todd Library during the month of July.
The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union
Many people wonder why the Soviet Union collapsed, considering its past status as one of the highly influential “Super Powers” in the world. Come visit the Todd Library’s monthly book display in June and learn more about the history of the Soviet Union, from the Revolution in 1917 to the final collapse in 1991.
National Military Appreciation Month
Both chambers of the U.S. Congress have adopted a resolution calling for Americans to recognize and honor U.S. service members during May’s National Military Appreciation Month.
So with that in mind, the Todd Library is honoring them through our book display and memorabilia. Come join us in a salute to all who have served and defended our great land from before we became a nation to present.
Remember too, on Memorial Day, the one minute of silence at 3 p.m. local time to honor the military’s fallen comrades and to pay tribute to the sacrifices by our nation’s service members and veterans.
