In honor of the occasion, here is a spooky poem written by Emily Dickinson and published posthumously in 1890:<\/p>\n

Because I Could Not Stop for Death (Poem 479)<\/p>\n

Because I could not stop for Death \u2013<\/div>\n
He kindly stopped for me \u2013<\/div>\n
The Carriage held but just Ourselves \u2013<\/div>\n
\n

And Immortality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We slowly drove \u2013 He knew no haste<\/div>\n
And I had put away<\/div>\n
My labor and my leisure too,<\/div>\n
\n

For His Civility \u2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We passed the School, where Children strove<\/div>\n
At Recess \u2013 in the Ring \u2013<\/div>\n
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain \u2013<\/div>\n
\n

We passed the Setting Sun \u2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Or rather \u2013 He passed Us \u2013<\/div>\n
The Dews drew quivering and Chill \u2013<\/div>\n
For only Gossamer, my Gown \u2013<\/div>\n

My Tippet \u2013 only Tulle \u2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We paused before a House that seemed<\/div>\n
A Swelling of the Ground \u2013<\/div>\n
The Roof was scarcely visible \u2013<\/div>\n
\n

The Cornice \u2013 in the Ground \u2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Since then \u2013 ’tis Centuries \u2013 and yet<\/div>\n
Feels shorter than the Day<\/div>\n
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads<\/div>\n
\n

Were toward Eternity \u2013<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
