Billy Graham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This\u00a0year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Illinois becoming our 21st state on Dec. 3, 1818, a year that also saw the births of first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, civil rights activist Frederick Douglass, and British novelist Emily Bronte.<\/p>\n<p>Alive for almost\u00a0half the lifetime of the state of Illinois\u00a0was\u00a0Rev. Billy Graham, who\u00a0lived from 1918-2018, and had several ties to Illinois:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1943 he\u00a0graduated from\u00a0Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, where he met his wife, Ruth.\u00a0 The college has a free\u00a0Billy Graham Center museum in his honor: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wheaton.edu\/academics\/academic-centers\/billy-graham-center\/\">https:\/\/www.wheaton.edu\/academics\/academic-centers\/billy-graham-center\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>After college, he\u00a0served as pastor of Western Springs Baptist Church in Western Springs, IL before becoming an evangelist.<\/li>\n<li>He founded the Carol Stream, IL-based\u00a0magazine <em>Christianity Today<\/em> in 1956.\u00a0\u00a0Here is\u00a0their commemorative issue: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2018\/billy-graham\/\">\u00a0https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2018\/billy-graham\/ <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A documentary of his life also aired recently, entitled\u00a0&#8220;Billy Graham: \u00a0An Extraordinary Journey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This\u00a0year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Illinois becoming our 21st state on Dec. 3, 1818, a year that also saw the births of first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, civil rights activist Frederick Douglass, and British novelist Emily Bronte.
