And niftily, that information can be passed on to publishers.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Chronicle of Higher Education <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.com\/blogs\/wiredcampus\/now-e-textbooks-can-report-back-on-students-reading-habits\/40928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a> that the same technology is soon to be used by universities to monitor students\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 reading.\u00c2\u00a0<strong>CourseSmart<\/strong>, which sells digital versions of the big publishers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 textbooks, announced [its] new program last week.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Luckily, for now, this software is being piloted at <strong>only<\/strong> three universities.\u00c2\u00a0 But it is, almost inevitably, coming our way.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mhpbooks.com\/your-reading-behaviour-is-being-monitored-part-ii\/#\">Your reading behaviour is being monitored: Part II \u00c2\u00bb MobyLives<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here comes CourseSmart, an e[text]book-related technology that can record data about how you read your assigned material, including which books we do and don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t finish, how long we spend reading them, and where we give up, if we do.
