This second edition, an expansion of the 2011 first edition, which evaluated 25 occupations, now highlights 30 health care careers that show strong employment growth. Organized alphabetically into chapters by job title, each section includes an overview of the profession, fast facts, training and certification requirements, additional resources, employer information, job-seeking and advancement advice, median earnings, employment outlook, and an interview with a professional in that career. Most chapters also feature sections examining "cool" or "emerging" career options, which spotlight career paths in greater depth. Additionally, the back of the book offers a chapter on health care scholarships and college summer exploration programs, which will benefit both high school and undergraduate students. Overall, the book is very easy to digest and browse, chunked into sections with bold section headings. Except for the interviews with professionals in the field, Hot Health Care Careers doesn't provide any additional information other than what users might find in the Occupational Outlook Handbook (CH, Jun'15, 52-5085) or O*NET (CH, Jan'09, 46-2410). Nevertheless, for patrons wanting a quick way to understand the top careers in a growing industry, this is a useful source for a comprehensive career collection. Summing Up: Recommended.
